| Rye takes its history seriously. This small city of roughly 15,000 residents bills itself as Westchesters oldest settlement, and local historians trace its origin back to 1660, when some residents of whats now Greenwich, Conn., arrived on its shores.
Also others who stopping by the inn, known then as the Widow Havilands Tavern, were included John Adams, Samuel Adams and the Marquis se Lafayette.
John Jay, the nations first chief justice of the Supreme Court, lived in and is buried in Rye, near the Jay Mansion built by his son.
Rye is dotted with shore, country and yacht clubs & has smaller, with beautiful homes & more modest homes, too, though some have been torn down in recent years to make way for bigger, more luxurious homes.
At night, the city caters to a dining crowd drawn to downtown resyaurants, but it otherwise grows quiet after dark
